Do these look familiar? No wonder! Labyrinths are ancient archetypal symbols found in cultures throughout the world dating back 3,500 years. They represent wholeness, combining the images of the circle and spiral into a single meandering pathway that leads to the center. They have been used as a tool to center, meditate and heal. For many, they symbolize the transformative journey of life. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth is a right brain task, using intuition, imagery, creativity and possibility.
Enjoy these hand built ceramic labyrinths in your home or garden. They're wonderful as a decorative accent piece in the garden, in a pot, or placed in a pathway. They can be used at an altar, a desk or bedside. The possibilities are limitless. Happy travels!
The Classical Style Labyrinth has been in existance for over 3,500 years. It is known as a 7 Circuit Labyrinth, being that there are 7 rings from the center to the outer edge. It has been found in cultures around the world: Peru, Scandinavia, India and Crete to name a few. They are carved in wood, rock and pottery, imprinted in coins, cut into turf, laid out on the ground and woven into designs. My labyrinths are made out of clay, strengthening the bond between humans and the earth.
The 11 Circuit Labyrinth can be found tiled into the floor of France's Chartres Cathedral and dates back to 1225 A.D. There is a wonderful replica (which can be walked) of this labyrinth at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. I have copied this beautiful design with the rosette in the center onto a clay slab, to be traced with your finger or a stick.
Limited quantities of the Chartres labyrinths, but I do have a variety of colors not seen on the web site. Contact me if interested. Order early for Christmas!
